Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD) are no longer rare conditions they are increasingly affecting adolescent girls and young women. Yet, despite their growing prevalence, awareness remains worryingly low.
Through our Daughters of Jijau initiative at Jeevandaan Foundation, Pune, we have begun engaging with schools and colleges to ensure that the new generation is informed, confident, and proactive about their health. Our aim is simple but powerful: knowledge today can prevent lifelong health challenges tomorrow.
PCOS and PCOD are not just medical conditions; they impact physical health, mental well-being, self-esteem, and long-term quality of life. Irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, weight fluctuations, acne, fertility concerns, anxiety, and lifestyle-related complications are often misunderstood or normalized due to lack of information.
During our Institutional Readiness Research 2026, which examined not only physical infrastructure but also social institutions, one critical issue stood out clearly:
👉 Girls and women are largely uninformed about PCOS and PCOD.
This gap in awareness delays diagnosis, worsens symptoms, and increases long-term health risks.
That is why first pillar of Daughters of Jijau focuses on:
Early awareness and open conversations
Scientific, stigma-free information
Encouraging healthy lifestyles, balanced nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and adequate sleep
Helping young girls avoid habits that may harm their health in the long run, such as sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary choices, and ignoring mental health
i.e. early education
We believe that empowering girls with the right information helps them make informed choices, seek timely medical advice, and build a healthier future for themselves and their families.
When schools, colleges, families, and social institutions come together, awareness transforms into action.
🌸 An informed daughter is a healthier daughter.
🌸 A healthy daughter builds a stronger society.
